The cost of a paver patio depends on size, material level, base work, design complexity and site conditions, so there is no single number that fits every yard. We do not quote prices in articles because they would be misleading. Below are the real cost drivers, so you can understand any quote you receive.
What are the biggest cost drivers?
•Size: more area means more material and labor.
•Excavation and base depth: base depth: digging out the area and building a compacted base takes time and material. Depth varies with soil, use and drainage.
•Material level: concrete pavers, premium pavers and natural stone all cost differently.
•Pattern complexity: curves, inlays and angled patterns take more cutting and labor.
•Access: tight gates or no equipment access mean more hand work.
•Drainage and grading: moving water away may require regrading or a French drain.
•Borders: soldier courses and accent bands add material and labor.
•Steps and add-ons: seat walls, fire pits, lighting and outdoor kitchens add scope.
Why does the base cost so much?
The base is the most important part of the patio and the part you never see. Excavation, aggregate and compaction take real time and material. In Mount Pleasant and across the Lowcountry, sandy soils shift, clay swells and shrinks, and heavy summer rain and high water tables soften the ground. A weak base leads to settling and uneven pavers.
Why are some quotes so much cheaper?
A very low quote often skips or shortens the base work. That saves money on day one and costs you later, because a thin or poorly compacted base settles, and the fix is to tear it up and start over. When comparing quotes, ask about base depth, compaction, edge restraint, drainage and the warranty. Make sure each quote covers the same scope.
How does material level change the price?
Generally, a Classic level uses quality concrete pavers, and a Premium level moves up to higher-end pavers or natural stone like travertine or bluestone. Natural stone usually costs more in material and labor. Pick the level that fits your budget and look. We show all three side by side.
How does our estimate work?
•On-site visit: we look at the yard, soil, access and drainage.
•Three price points: the same scope of work at different material levels, so you can compare fairly.
•Custom 3D design: once the project is booked, so you can see the layout before work begins.
The estimate is free, and every paver install includes a 10-year workmanship warranty.
What else should you plan for?
Check HOA rules and local codes, since some communities require approval and some work needs permits. Plan for upkeep too: joint sand, cleaning and sealing are separate maintenance and not included with an install.
Frequently asked questions
•Why can't you give a price per square foot?
Because base work, access, drainage and materials vary too much between yards. A fair number comes from seeing the site.
•Is a bigger patio always more expensive?
Generally, yes, but a simple large patio can cost less than a small complex one.
•Do pavers cost more than concrete?
Usually up front, yes. Over time, repairs can narrow the gap.
•Want to see real numbers for your yard?
If you are in Mount Pleasant or the surrounding Lowcountry, we are happy to take a look. Every project starts with a free design and build estimate: an on-site visit, three price points for the same scope of work, and a custom 3D design once the project is booked. Every paver install includes a 10-year workmanship warranty. No pressure.
