A Mount Pleasant homeowner came to us wanting two outdoor spaces in one small footprint: a spot for lounge chairs and a separate area built around a fire pit. The lot didn't have room for anything sprawling, so the layout had to do a lot of work in a tight 300 square feet.

The Plan
We laid out two connected shapes: a small rectangular pad sized for lounge chairs, flowing into a circular patio built around a fire pit. A black paver border separates the two areas, so even though they share one surface, each section reads as its own space. This kind of layout is common in Mount Pleasant backyards where lot size is limited but homeowners still want more than one use out of their patio.
Materials
We used Techo-Bloc Blu 60 pavers for the main field, in tan, with a black accent border tying the rectangle and the circle together visually. The fire pit itself is built from Techo-Bloc Raffinato block, which gives it a cleaner, more finished look than a standard stacked-stone pit. The contrast between the tan field, black border, and Raffinato fire pit keeps the design sharp without relying on a lot of different materials.
The Challenge and How We Solved It
Tying a straight-edged rectangle into a circular patio isn't as simple as it looks. Every cut around the circle has to be precise, or the border reads crooked instead of intentional. We took our time on the layout and dry-fit the circular section before committing to final cuts, so the black border curves cleanly around the fire pit area and lines up where it meets the rectangular pad.
Mount Pleasant's soil and drainage also factor into any paver patio install. We built the base to shed water properly so the patio holds up through heavy Lowcountry rain and doesn't shift or settle around the fire pit over time.
The Finished Result
The finished patio gives the homeowner exactly what they asked for: a defined lounge chair area and a separate circular space for gathering around the fire pit, unified by the tan and black paver pattern. At 300 square feet, the design proves you don't need a huge footprint to get two distinct outdoor living zones out of one patio.
As with every paver installation we do, this project comes with 2 years of free maintenance and a 5-year workmanship warranty, so the homeowner doesn't have to worry about upkeep or settling issues down the road.
