A homeowner in West Ashley reached out looking for a clean, simple paver patio to replace a plain patch of yard. They wanted something that looked sharp without being complicated: a solid field color with a border to frame it in. No fire pit, no seating wall, just a well-built patio that would hold up in the Lowcountry weather.

The Plan
We met on site, walked the space, and talked through layout options. The homeowner had a clear idea already, so the design phase was quick. We settled on a 270 square foot patio using Belgard pavers, with a Savannah paver as the main field and a black paver as a contrasting border around the perimeter.
As with every project, we started with a free design and build estimate. That meant an on-site visit and three price points for the same scope of work at different material levels, so the homeowner could see the range before committing to anything.
Materials
Belgard pavers are a solid choice for West Ashley patios. They hold color well in the sun and salt air, and they're dense enough to handle the freeze-thaw cycles we do get, even if they're mild here. The Savannah paver gave the field a warm, neutral tone, and the black border pavers laid around the edge gave the whole patio a finished, framed look instead of just stopping flat.
The Site and How We Handled It
Like most lots in West Ashley, this one sits on a mix of sandy and clay soil, which means drainage and base prep matter more than people expect. We excavated to the proper depth, compacted a stable base in layers, and made sure the grade sloped away from the house so water has somewhere to go during heavy summer rain. Skipping this step is how you end up with a patio that shifts or puddles within a year or two. We didn't skip it.
With a 270 square foot patio, the border pattern also had to be planned out before laying started. Cutting the black border pavers to wrap the field cleanly, especially at the corners, takes some planning so the pattern doesn't look chopped up. We laid it out first, made adjustments, then set the pavers in place.
The Finished Result
The finished patio gives the homeowner a clean outdoor space with a defined edge that reads well against the yard. The Savannah and black combination is simple, but it's the kind of simple that looks intentional rather than plain. It's a patio built to be used, not just looked at.
As with every paver install we do, this patio comes with a 5-year workmanship warranty. So the homeowner isn't just getting a nice-looking patio, they're getting one we stand behind after the trucks leave.
