Center Street Coffee sits in the heart of downtown Folly Beach, and the owners wanted an outdoor space that could handle foot traffic, salt air, and everything a busy coffee shop patio goes through in a day. They came to us to build an 800 square foot paver patio that could serve as the anchor for a bigger outdoor buildout, including seating, a stage for live music, and landscaping.
The Plan
This wasn't a backyard patio. It was a commercial space in the middle of downtown Folly Beach, meant to hold up under regular use from customers, staff, and events. We worked with the coffee shop to lay out a patio that gave them room for seating, walking paths, and a stage area without feeling cramped.
Because the site sits in the heart of Folly Beach, we also had to think about salt air exposure and the kind of heavy foot traffic you get on a barrier island with a lot of visitors. The paver choice and base work both had to account for that from day one.
Materials
We installed a simple 4x8 Belgard Aqualine paver in the Savannah color. It's a clean, understated look that fits the downtown Folly Beach setting without competing with the coffee shop's building or the murals and wall art added around the space. The size and pattern kept the install straightforward while still giving the patio a finished, intentional look.
The Build
An 800 square foot commercial paver patio needs a solid base to handle repeated use, especially this close to the water. We built the base to support consistent foot traffic and the added weight of outdoor furniture, a stage structure, and planters, all while accounting for the sandy soil conditions common on Folly Beach.
Once the patio itself was down, the coffee shop's team layered in the finishing touches: string lights overhead, wall art on the surrounding walls, benches and seating scattered through the space, plants to soften the hardscape, and a small stage for live music. The patio we built became the base that all of it sits on.
The Finished Result
What used to be unused outdoor space at Center Street Coffee is now a functional gathering spot in downtown Folly Beach. Customers have room to sit, listen to music, and hang out outside instead of just grabbing coffee and leaving. The patio holds its own under daily commercial use and the coastal conditions that come with a Folly Beach location.
As with every paver install we do, this patio comes with 2 years of free maintenance and a 5-year workmanship warranty, so the coffee shop doesn't have to worry about the investment as it settles in and sees regular use.
